Back for another year of fiery fun Olbrich Botanical Gardens and FeLion Studios team up to offer sand mold workshops followed by an in-person iron pour outdoors on the Great Lawn at the Gardens!
Artists, students, workshop participants, and professionals of all backgrounds come together with the common goal of creating hundreds of unique art works made by their hands and cast in the spectacular medium of molten iron during the coldest time of year!
Lead by Alisa Toninato, artist/ FeLion Studios owner, the FeLion crew will facilitate the 14th annual Pour'n Yer Heart Out event at the Gardens while spectators enjoy the sparks from a designated safety area.
This spectacular display of mold iron will be the hottest winter experience in town!
Sand mold workshop opportunities
Olbrich Gardens and FeLion Studios partner to offer community workshops for every skill level starting in January 2023. Workshops are a fun & inspiring way to bounce ideas off of the FeLion team, meet other community participants, and socialize while you make something incredibly unique with your hands.

SCRATCH TILE WORKSHOPS
JANUARY
Take-home scratch tiles
Starting Wednesday, January 11 - while supplies last
Wanna do-it-yourself? A variety of different pre-formed sand mold blanks are available for purchase to take home and work on at your leisure before the day of the iron pour event.
- Available for purchase at Olbrich Gardens, daily 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- (5) mold template options - Hearts - Square - Tessellation - Hexagon - Banner
- subject to current availability upon arrival at the Gardens
- $50 per tile + tax
- Pay onsite at the Gardens in Olbrich’s gift shop when picking up tile
- Tiles must be returned to Olbrich Botanical Gardens by Monday, February 13 for prep before the pour
- Please take a photo of your finished scratch tile for identification purposes at the pick up, post pour.
Guided Scratch Tile Workshop
Saturday, January 28, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Engage in learning creative approaches and various techniques to carving your sand mold for a beautifully unique iron relief casting. A demonstration by instructor Alisa
Toninato
followed by a Q&A will provide helpful tips for carving your design.

CLAY MOLD WORKSHOPS
Clay Workshop
Saturday, January 14 - 1:00- 5:00 p.m.
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to make a detailed cast iron work of art! With guidance from Alisa Toninato, artist and owner of FeLion Studios, you will learn creative techniques and craft a 7x7 inch relief sculpture mold using oil clay!

Once your clay sculpting is complete, FeLion Studios will create a sand mold around your design in preparation for your artwork to be cast into iron at the Pour'n Yer Heart Out Community Iron Pour event hosted at Olbrich Gardens on February 18!
Finshed Artwork pick-upS
Starting March 6, daily 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Both clay and scratch tile artwork will be available for pick at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in the lobby area.
- Workshop participants will be asked to show a photo of the original sand mold (pre-pour) to identify their artwork at pick-up.
- Please retrieved your artwork by March 24.
