Guided Group Tours at Olbrich Botanical Gardens

June, July, and August
Tuesdays and Thursdays 1 - 3 p.m.

Make a visit to Olbrich Botanical Gardens part of your group's itinerary for a personal guided tour through the outdoor gardens. Olbrich Botanical Gardens features 16 acres of outdoor display gardens and groups can enjoy a 45-minute narrated tour, visiting Olbrich's new Rose Garden, along with the Sunken, Rock, Herb, Perennial, and Thai Pavilion Gardens.

Tours of ten or more people can be scheduled for Mondays through Fridays at $3 per person. Enjoy the seasonal beauty with a guide who can highlight the features of the individual gardens. Advanced registration is required by calling 608-246-4550. Tours are available between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tours will vary somewhat according to season to reflect the garden areas that are at peak interest.

The Sunken Garden features regional prairie style terraces, a mix of perennial plants, and an 80-foot reflecting pool. The two and a half acre Perennial Garden features a meandering stream surrounded by perennial plants that are hardy to the upper Midwest. Olbrich's Rose Garden features Prairie style architecture and an accessible native stone overlook tower, which offers views of the Gardens and Lake Monona beyond. The Rose Garden features the Midwest's finest collection of hardy shrub roses integrated into a landscape filled with colorful perennials, waving ornamental grasses, blooming shrubs, vines, and small ornamental trees, as well as colorful spring bulbs.

While at Olbrich, experience the exquisite artisanship and exotic culture of Thailand in Olbrich's Thai Pavilion and Garden. The pavilion was a gift to the University of Wisconsin-Madison from the Thai government and the Thai chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association. It is one of only four such pavilions located outside of Thailand, and the only one surrounded by a garden. The wood pavilion features a lacquer finish with intricate decorations and ornate gold leaf accents. A traditional Thai style garden with serene reflecting pools surrounds the open-air pavilion.

After the guided outdoor garden tour, step inside for a self-guided tour and enjoy a tropical paradise year-round in the Bolz Conservatory, a glass pyramid filled with exotic plants, a rushing waterfall, exquisite orchids, and free-flying birds. Conservatory admission is $1.

Finish your trip at the Olbrich Botanical Center to shop for garden related gifts in the Growing Gifts shop. While at Olbrich, your guests will enjoy free parking, convenient restrooms, friendly staff and volunteers, and easy access to Monona Terrace, the State Capitol, and other attractions.
